The goal VRHA Youth Leadership award is to identify and recognize leadership qualities in our youth members and to identify potential future leaders in the reining horse industry. Applicants should demonstrate academic dedication, exemplary sportsmanship, volunteerism, and serve as role models for his or her peers. Applicants may participate at any level of competition at the VRHA shows.
Two awards will be given this year, one for the 13 and under and one for the 14-18 (includes a small scholarship for this age group) and the awards will be given at the year-end awards banquet. Applications will be evaluated based on the age group the child was in for the 2015 show season. Keep in mind, this award is open to all VRHA youth, regardless of whether or not they showed. If you are a VRHA youth member in good standing, you can apply.
- Completion of Youth Leadership Award Application
- Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a non-family member
- 1000 word essay. The topic for 2015 is “What does it mean to be a leader?”
Applications are accepted starting June 1, 2015 and must be received by VRHA postmarked no later than November 1, 2015. All applications will be evaluated by a Youth Awards Committee.
